Who is responsible

Jehan Labs Limited, a New Zealand company, provides Deep Sky Spotter and is responsible for the personal information described in this statement. Jehan Labs Limited is the relevant agency or data controller where those terms apply. The privacy contact and privacy officer can be reached at [email protected].

Deep Sky Spotter is designed to minimise collection. Jehan Labs Limited does not sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising, serve third-party advertising, or use advertising trackers.

Information handled by Deep Sky Spotter

Information kept on your device

Equipment and location profiles, sky-brightness choices, filters, preferences, checklists, tonight and upcoming session plans, cached weather, imaging log entries, notes, and optional finished-image attachments are stored locally on your device. Imaging history and attached images are not uploaded by Deep Sky Spotter. Motion and compass readings used by Pointing Assist are processed live on your device and are not stored or transmitted by Jehan Labs Limited.

Weather and place search

If you use automatic location, the app requests foreground location permission and obtains your coordinates. You may instead search for a place or enter coordinates manually. Coordinates used for a weather request and text entered into place search are sent through a Jehan Labs Limited Cloudflare Worker to WeatherAPI.com. Cloudflare and WeatherAPI.com may also receive associated technical information such as an IP address, request time, and network headers.

Future target visibility dates are calculated on your device from the selected location.

Purchases and subscriptions

In builds with purchases enabled, RevenueCat checks Pro access when the app loads, including for people who have not purchased, using a pseudonymous app user identifier and app, device, and network information. Jehan Labs Limited receives product, transaction, entitlement status, and expiry information from Apple or Google through RevenueCat to provide and verify Pro access, including subsequent subscription updates.

If you view, purchase, manage, or restore Deep Sky Spotter Pro, Apple or Google and RevenueCat process information needed to provide and verify the purchase. This may include an anonymous RevenueCat app user identifier, product and transaction information, entitlement status and expiry, app and device information, IP address, and diagnostic information. Apple or Google processes payment details; Jehan Labs Limited does not receive your payment-card number.

Support

If you contact support, Jehan Labs Limited receives the contact details, message contents, and any diagnostic information or attachments you choose to provide. Support email is held in Microsoft 365; Cloudflare handles email routing. Please do not send payment-card details or other information that is not needed to answer your request.

Optional information

Automatic location, purchases, image attachments, and support contact are optional. If you do not provide the relevant information or permission, the associated feature will not work, but the app’s other available features can still be used. Store transaction information is required if you choose to buy or restore Pro access.

How information is used and the legal grounds

Jehan Labs Limited uses personal information only where reasonably necessary to:

  • provide weather, place search, target scoring, purchase restoration, subscription access, and support requested by you;
  • verify Pro entitlements and prevent purchase fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access;
  • operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the reliability of the app and its services;
  • respond to privacy requests, complaints, and legal obligations; and
  • establish, exercise, or defend legal claims where necessary.

Where a law requires a stated legal basis, Jehan Labs Limited relies on performance of a contract or steps requested before a contract for purchases and requested services; consent for optional device permissions where required; legitimate interests in operating, securing, and supporting the service; and compliance with legal obligations. You can withdraw an optional permission through your device settings. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing.

Target scores and recommendations are automated planning estimates. They do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about a person.

Service providers, sharing, and overseas processing

Jehan Labs Limited discloses information only as needed to operate the requested feature, comply with law, protect users or the service, or complete a business transfer subject to appropriate protections. The principal providers are:

  • Cloudflare — website delivery, email routing, weather and place proxying, and service security;
  • Microsoft 365 — support email and related business-record storage;
  • WeatherAPI.com — place-search and weather results based on search text or coordinates;
  • RevenueCat — subscription product, entitlement, purchase, restoration, and customer-management services;
  • Apple and Google — app distribution, store accounts, payments, transaction records, subscription management, and platform services; and
  • Expo — app development and delivery services.

These providers may process information in New Zealand, Australia, the United States, or other countries where they or their subprocessors operate. Those countries may have different privacy laws. Jehan Labs Limited limits disclosures to what is reasonably necessary. Provider terms and available contractual and technical safeguards differ by service. Microsoft, Apple, Google, WeatherAPI.com, RevenueCat, Cloudflare, and Expo also process information under their own terms and privacy statements.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

  • Local information remains until you delete it in the app, clear the app’s storage, delete individual records where available, or uninstall the app.
  • Our policy is to delete ordinary support correspondence six calendar months after final resolution. Closed cases are reviewed monthly, so deletion may occur at the following monthly review. Necessary legal or dispute records may be kept longer, with a recorded reason and review date. After removal from Deleted Items, Microsoft 365 is configured to retain recoverable email for 14 days. Preservation requirements or other provider copies may last longer.
  • Website and service security logs are retained according to operational and security needs and the relevant provider’s retention settings.
  • Apple, Google, and RevenueCat may retain purchase and transaction records under their own retention schedules for subscription administration, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. Deleting local app data does not delete store records or cancel a subscription.
To delete locally stored app data, use “Delete local app data” on the app’s About & Legal screen. Manage or cancel a subscription through the store account used to purchase it.

Your privacy rights

For New Zealand access and correction requests, we normally communicate our decision within 20 working days. If a lawful extension is necessary, we explain the reason and new timeframe. Information approved for release is provided without undue delay. If a requested correction is declined, you may ask for a statement of the correction sought to be attached to the information.

You may ask Jehan Labs Limited to confirm whether it holds personal information about you and request access to or correction of that information. Depending on the law that applies to you, you may also have rights to deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent, or complaint to a privacy regulator.

Because the app does not use a user account system, Jehan Labs Limited may need information such as a RevenueCat app user identifier or support correspondence to locate records and verify that a request relates to you. Jehan Labs Limited will request only what is reasonably necessary and may be unable to locate information held solely under an identifier that you cannot provide.

Send a request to [email protected]. Jehan Labs Limited will respond within the period required by applicable law. New Zealand users may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner ↗. People elsewhere may contact their local privacy or data-protection authority.

Security and children

Jehan Labs Limited uses reasonable technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the information handled. Network requests use HTTPS and service access is protected against abuse. No device, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Deep Sky Spotter is a general-audience astrophotography tool and is not directed to children under 13. Jehan Labs Limited does not knowingly seek personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided server-stored personal information, contact Jehan Labs Limited so the situation can be investigated and appropriate action taken. A parent or guardian should supervise a child’s use where required by local law.

Website privacy

This website is a static site and does not use advertising trackers, analytics scripts, account registration, or Jehan Labs Limited cookies. The hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, necessarily processes ordinary web-request information such as IP address, browser and device headers, requested page, request time, and security signals to deliver and protect the site.

Changes to this statement

Jehan Labs Limited may update this statement when the app, providers, or legal obligations change. The effective date will be revised, and material changes will be communicated in the app or through another appropriate channel where required.
