Privacy statement

How Deep Sky Spotter handles information used to personalise astrophotography recommendations and provide purchases.

Our approach

Deep Sky Spotter uses only the information needed to personalise astrophotography recommendations and provide purchases. Jehan Labs does not sell personal information, serve third-party advertising, or use advertising trackers.

Information handled by the app

  • Your equipment profile, sky-brightness choice, filters, session plan, checklist, and app preferences are stored locally on your device.
  • If you choose automatic location, the app requests foreground location permission. You can instead search for a place or enter coordinates manually.
  • Coordinates and place-search text are sent through Jehan Labs’ Cloudflare Worker to WeatherAPI.com to retrieve weather and place results.
  • Motion and compass readings used by Pointing Assist are processed live on your device and are not stored or transmitted by Deep Sky Spotter.
  • When purchases are enabled, Apple or Google and RevenueCat process store transaction, entitlement, app, device, network, and pseudonymous customer information. Jehan Labs does not receive your payment-card details.

How information is used

  • Calculate target visibility, Moon impact, weather suitability, and personalised recommendations.
  • Remember your setup, location choice, observing plan, and checklist between sessions.
  • Process, restore, and verify Deep Sky Spotter Pro access.
  • Maintain app reliability and prevent purchase fraud through the app stores and RevenueCat.

Weather disclaimer

Weather information is provided for general informational and planning purposes only. Forecasts and conditions are probabilistic and may not be accurate for your specific location or time. Do not use this data as the sole basis for decisions involving personal safety, aviation, marine navigation, emergency planning, or other safety-critical activities. Always consult official meteorological services and relevant authorities when accuracy is critical.

Sharing and third parties

Information is shared only as needed with the service providers described above. Their processing and retention are governed by their own privacy terms. Standard network information such as an IP address may be received when your device contacts these services.

Retention, deletion, and your choices

  • Local information remains until you reset it in the app, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app.
  • You can revoke location or motion access at any time in system settings and continue using manual coordinates.
  • Purchase and transaction records may remain with Apple, Google, and RevenueCat for entitlement, accounting, fraud-prevention, and legal purposes.
  • The app currently has no Jehan Labs account and does not upload your session plan or equipment profile to a Jehan Labs server.
To delete locally stored app data, use the “Delete local app data” control on the app’s About & Legal screen, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app. Store purchase records are not deleted by that local reset.

Security, children, and changes

Reasonable safeguards are used, but no device or network service can be guaranteed completely secure. The app is not directed to children under 13. This statement may be updated as the app or its providers change; the effective date above will be revised when that happens.
